Dave Garlock Associates

Self Employed

December 2007 to Present
Little Canada, Minnesota

Leveraging experience and knowledge gained from previous positions, I’ve weathered the recession pursuing new skills, embracing emerging web technologies and exploring potential opportunities in Internet marketing. Refined disciplines include:

  • Search Engine Optimization, including on-site "best html practices", page ranking strategies, keyword analysis and back-linking methodologies.
  • Search Engine Marketing, including Pay-per-Click (Adwords, Yahoo, Bing, facebook), affiliate marketing and online lead generation.
  • Web Analytics, including Analog, WebTrends and Google Analytics.

During this time, I developed BoomerTimes.com, a web portal targeting the baby boomer niche. Built upon the Drupal content management system, this site is PHP and MySQL based, using a table-less CSS theme design. My monetization plan for this site includes affiliate marketing and PPC.

Eagan, Minnesota

Upon learning of the sale and dissolution of my previous employer, a position as marketing coordinator was created for me at AllRegs, another former employer. Tasked with implementing as well as contributing to all aspects of the marketing plan, duties included:

  • Writing, editing and producing web content, conveying design and business case requirements to developers and updating two websites daily.
  • Writing, editing, producing and distributing weekly newsletters and product announcements via html e-mail to 80,000 targeted recipients.
  • Collaborative marketing coordination with industry partners; co-branding and market seeding, writing and distributing press releases.
  • Coordination of 26 annual trade shows including venue selection, registrations, shipping and transportation, display properties management, services scheduling and accountability for all fees and expenses.

During this time I also worked closely with sales and customer service teams, mentoring new hires and attending both sales and support phone queues during heavy call loads and staff absences.
In November of 2007 following the collapse of the mortgage industry, I was among 25 percent of the staff of 60 laid off to reduce payroll.

Complete Internet Solutions, Inc.

Sales, Marketing and Business Development

May, 2000 to June, 2002
Minneapolis, Minnesota

In the Spring of 2000 I was approached by friends at Complete Internet Solutions to help launch a new service featuring high speed Internet services, a robust web application suite, IP telephony from Cisco Systems and thin client "hot desk" technology from Sun Microsystems. My role was to interpret and define the value proposition in their efforts and innovative technology solutions for small and medium businesses in the Twin Cities.

  • Writing, editing and producing sales literature, web content, data sheets, executive summaries, customer proposals and service agreements.
  • Direct outside business to business sales, recruitment of affiliates and resellers, team support for upstream service provider negotiations.
  • First in the Twin Cities to deploy a converged business class Voice-over-IP and broadband Internet service to area businesses.

In the fall of 2001 Complete Internet Solutions was sold to MP Telecom, a division of Minnesota Power. My position and others were downsized as part of the acquisition.

I attended a very good high school and have completed some college coursework over the years but have not yet achieved a degree from an accredited institution. The knowledge I have acquired from experience is significant and for the most part not available in the classroom.
